COVID -19: AN EYE OPENER WHICH MAY LEAD TO STRONGER INSTITUTIONS AND BETTER GOVERNMENT.
Humans are very social beings, who from early days have ensured that institutions or establishments and government are put in place, to ensure that rights, lives, conducts and properties are protected and regulated for the peaceful coexistence of every person, and to maintain peace, law and order in the Society. Hence, we see the human society full of Institutions, which are established organisations or corporations, especially of a public character, intending to fulfil a specific purpose (Oxford Online Dictionary).
The human society, through institutions and governments, has gone through several years of evolutional civilization; and could be referred to have a stable society. This was the case before the Global Pandemic known as Coronavirus, (Covid-19); Which has exposed the weaknesses and portholes of our institutions. Covid-19 Stated from Wuyan in China and has since spread to almost every country of the world, with deaths already in millions, and hundreds daily. We have seen societies once believed to be improved and stable, but now exposed to be lacking in many Sectors like the medical, Educational and economic sector. This Pandemic has clearly shown that the Stable civilization the human society once celebrated in their institutions and government, is indeed at the verge of collapsing, due to Lack of Sustainability. Also, with experiences from Covid-19, Institutions and Government can be built to be better and stronger.
The Pandemic has indeed shown that stability which lasts for a few moments with no means of sustenance for the future and continuity of humanity, is no hope for humanity. It is no news that Economies are melting down, people have lost their source of livelihood, crime has increased, anxiety has also increased with the deaths. The question now is, what is the way out for a continuous humanity? What will be the fate of the human society if they are destructions to its informal and Formal Institutions, as this is where the world is heading? these questions boils down to building a stronger and better government and society. And how can we build better and stronger institutions and society?
George Santayana said that “he who fails to recall history, will not fail to repeat history” (paraphrased). Institutions like families, marriages, governments, some economies, education and religion are majorly affected. In many western families, almost all the members are lost or a teenager remaining, governments are seen borrowing billions with terms that may later affect them, and educational institutions are not looking forward to even opening in most African Countries. These clearly shows that all hand needs to be on deck for the continuity of the human society, by building a better and stronger institution. Hence, prepared with sustainability for any future occurrence.
From informal to the formal institutions (from families to governments), we all must inculcate has doctrine the Importance of Humanity above Political Ego. This will lead to the unity of humanity, as it is the only way a fast cure can be found for the pandemic. A situation, where black and white experts will seat together and empirically come to a logical conclusion and reject every desire for racial bias. This is beyond kneeling with Ankara around the neck, it is consciously giving importance to humanity and human survival. This will lead to a cure for the present pandemic and will lead to stronger and better institutions in the human society.
From the family as an institution to the government, hard work should be indoctrinated above mediocrity and nepotism. However, stable the institutions maybe, inhumanity, mediocrity, and nepotism is a cancerous lump that can eat down the very structures of stable civilization. Hence for a better society, we all must emphasize and indoctrinate hard work over mediocrity and nepotism.
Also, the human society should invest in research In the medical and environmental institutions so as not to be gravely shocked by future occurrences. Also, just as investment and innovations are made in the energy sector, Institutions should invest in the health sector, building stronger and better facilities and drugs for the betterment of humanity. The same goes for the educational sector, which a primary and similar to the health sector. Our society may be attacked, but when institutions are better placed, the attack can be controlled, contained, and cured.
Conclusively, institutions from family and government function as a means of maintaining and continuing the human society and civilization. Hence the need for better and stronger institutions through indoctrinating and investing in: Humanity above political ego or racism; Hard work over mediocrity and nepotism; medical and environmental research and improvements; educational research and improvements. With these, man will ensure a better and stronger society, through better and stronger institutions (from family to government) by the lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic. Thank you.
